Emily,
"Her personal archive is at the Walker. It was donated in the early 2000s."
I figured as much, thank you for confirming.
"There is also lots of correspondence between her & filmmakers in CMOAs
collection as well. Her letters with filmmakers like Brakhage & Frampton
often blended “business” and personal; they’re a real treat to read."
Oh, I love reading personal correspondence (I'm thinking of the letters
between Brakhage and Sharits reprinted in the "Buffalo Heads" book) as I am
always wondering about the social networks of these characters and if/how
that can help us understand those times better. I think that, in the case
of Dixon, this can help us to understand how crucial the roles of certain
critics, curators, teachers, writers, archivists, administrators and
advocates were for helping to create infrastructure (film culture) for the
filmmakers and their audiences. It's hard to imagine this world without the
contributions of people like Annette Michelson, Gerald O'Grady, Bruce
Baillie, Robert Gardner, MM Serra, Gene Youngblood and others.
Best wishes,
Jared
