the early days, very early days of Channel 4 hosted some work which could be termed avant-garde/experimental, i think  ~  a series of abstract films under the umbrella title of "Dadarama" (i remember capturing one on VHS at the time, a piece about water with a soundtrack by David Cunningham)  ~  they also screened (and possibly commissioned) a long multi-layered piece by David Larcher called "E Etc"  ~  extraordinary construction...
