Summary
The Film Studio Manager oversees the technical production and
post-production studios on the SF campus, including equipment
circulation for the Film Program. These studios include a production
stage, instructional lab, teaching studio, audio recording suite,
video editing suites and an equipment circulation room. He/she will
facilitate and provide instructional assistance and technical support
to students and faculty from all departments who use technology in
these learning environments. He/she will also manage a team of student
workers to assist in studio support and equipment circulation. The
Film Studio Manager will create a safe and hospitable learning
atmosphere for students and faculty, develop and manage administrative
procedures, advise on studio access and safety policies, and
administer procedures to maintain these policies. He/she will be
expected to maintain a constant presence in the programs. The Film
Studio Manager works closely with the Film Program Chairs, SF Studio
Staff, Academic Affairs, and Educational Technology Services (ETS)
staff in addressing all studio and classroom needs.

Responsibilities
• Reinforces classroom instruction on the SF campus by serving as an
instructional resource. Provides assistance and advises students on
solving technical problems, including the safe and healthy use of
equipment and facilities used to carry out the production and
post-production process.
• In consultation with the Film Chairs, SF Studios Supervisor, and the
Fine Arts Office, researches and prepares the annual Film Program
operating budget. Manages, processes, monitors, and tracks
expenditures. Administers procedures to collect and report payments
for Program equipment and services to the Business office. In
addition, works with the Film Program budget on honorarium and supply
purchases.
• In consultation with the Film Chairs, Director of Academic
Technology, SF Studio Staff, the Academic Affairs office, and/or the
SF Facilities office, advises on the development of policies and
administers policies and procedures to manage studio access, equipment
circulation and use of equipment by students and faculty.
• Recruits, hires, train, and supervise all Film studio and
circulation desk student workers.
• Coordinates with SF Media Services staff as needed to maintain
consistent AV support in Film classrooms and at the equipment
circulation counters in the SF Media Center.
• Supports the faculty delivery of curriculum by facilitating and
providing individual and/or group instruction on specialized, digital
production and post-production techniques, equipment and workflow.
• In collaboration with Academic Computing staff, ensures the proper
installation, configuration, deployment, security, and maintenance of
hardware devices, such as workstations, decks, mics, and other related
equipment as required for optimal production and post-production
instruction in the film studios.
• In consultation with the SF Facilities Director and/or the Film
Chairs, prepares for special events such as visiting artist lectures
and/or demonstrations, program or student
exhibits/screenings/performances, public tours of facilities,
orientations, and open houses, including access, egress, and safety
issues.
• In consultation with the Film Program Chairs, maintains equipment
inventory and controls materials, supplies and equipment usage in the
instructional program and studios. Researches vendors and equipment.
Orders materials, supplies and equipment and coordinates program
purchases with the college’s Purchasing Department.
• Maintains repairs and/or sends equipment out for repair as needed,
including 16mm and Super 8 film equipment to support film classes.
Operates repairs and maintains film editing equipment, such as
Steenbeck film editing tables.
• Updates and maintains technical support documentation, including the
Film Studios presence on the CCA website.
• Keeps abreast of trends in digital production and post-production
through research, training, and attending relevant industry and higher
education conferences.
• Assists the Film Chairs in facilitating communication with Film
Program faculty.
• Ensures that college policies and regulations are respected within
the studios.
• Performs additional duties as assigned, including possible
assignments on the Oakland campus.
Minimum Qualifications
MFA degree in Film and/or equivalent experience. Demonstrated
expertise and skill with digital film, video, audio, physical
computing, basic electronic fabrication and repair, light construction
and facilities maintenance is required. Excellent interpersonal
skills, strong customer service orientation and ability to be
diplomatic and highly responsive in all interpersonal interactions.
Advanced skill in communicating in critical situations, orally and in
writing with business, education and community leaders. Demonstrated
skill in managing student workers. Demonstrated skill with managing a
budget. Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills and ability
to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to lift equipment in
excess of 45 lbs. Ability and desire to keep skills and knowledge
current in a rapidly changing field. Ability to juggle and prioritize
among a variety of shifting tasks with patience and good humor. Work
experience in higher education highly preferred. Familiarity with an
art and design environment favored. Familiarity with equipment
circulation software, ‘Web Checkout’ is highly desirable.
NOTE SCHEDULE: Work 10 months (June and July off).
Technical skills
Expert knowledge with Mac OS X and Apple computers. Proficiency with
the Windows XP operating system a plus. Demonstrated knowledge of all
equipment, tools, and processes associated with producing and editing
digital video and audio including (but not limited to), HDV decks,
digital media, digital cameras, Final Cut Pro, AfterEffects, DVD
Studio Pro, Adobe Creative Suite and ProTools. Expert knowledge of the
Final Cut Studio suite of applications is highly preferred.
Salary
$34,000 / annually, and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
