[Frameworks] 16mm Xenon projection suggestion please

i have been doing 16mm projections outdoors for years, using all types of projectors and getting varied results. my work does not require a "clean and pristine" image, especially since i am often projecting onto moving targets and things like trees, foliage and water.

you might want to consider how essential it is to you to have the sound and energy of the 16mm projection at this screening and how much you are willing to sacrifice the sanctity of image quality in exchange for that 16mm feel (you might very well also lose image quality even if projecting video). if your post stated correctly, you are planning to elevate the projector 30 feet? (or did you mean 30 inches?) it will hinder you to elevate the projector too much, as you will then be competing more intensely with the ambient light contamination and natural "sky light".

my suggestion is to go with the brightest possible lamp and experiment in the space beforehand if possible.

another consideration when working outdoors is to somehow level the ground beneath the projector as best you can. i recently did a traveling installation with seven projectors in neighborhood parks across Miami, where the projectors were placed on podiums directly on natural ground (no concrete, this was out in nature) and at the end of the tour, at least four of the projectors were in desperate need of repair, leaving huge thick scratches in anything that ran through them.

you are welcome to look at some of the images (both process and results) from these park installations at the project blog page:
