[Frameworks] Two historical questions

On Smith:

In the recent book from the Getty: Harry Smith: the Avant-Garde in  
the American Vernacular, Rani Singh writes in his contribution "Harry  
Smith, An Ethnographic Modernist" about Smith "volunteering" to do  
library research for the program, and then in July of 1947 being  
asked by Frank Stauffacher to travel to LA on the program's behalf.   
Smith screened work with Art in Cinema in Oct. '47, Sept. '48, Feb.  
'49, May '50, and Apr. '51.  It is unclear from the essay how he  
extricated himself from Art in Cinema, or which month he left San  
Francisco, but Smith moved to New York City in sometime in 1951  
(probably early) for he received a grant from the Guggenheim  
Foundation in May of 1950 which would act as a partial financial  
impetus to moving east.
