Four options:

1) Don't upgrade and use what you are using until you are happy with
improvements to FCP X (though as many on this forum claim, they will never
come)

2) Upgrade and remain unhappy with FCP X.

4) Never upgrade and find the limitations of FCP7 down the road.

3) Migrate to a new editing platform.

Simply speaking, in a few years FCP 7 will not be able to handle the
advancements (ie changes) in media files, both sizes and codecs --
therefore, rightly so it will be left in the dust.

In order to handle these new improvements they need new architecture. Is FCP
X ready? No. Does it have the capabilities of not becoming obsolete?
Yes. Will Apple's future updates become more "Pro"? Well, figure whatever
you'd like to on that one.

How many people complain that their G5 "is just fine" and are mad that Apple
only supports Intel machines with their software? Simply speaking the G5
cannot handle the advancements Apple was forseeing. In order to remain
current they had to switch systems. Same with FCP.
