Motion Picture Film Tech*

Colorlab Corp. is a motion picture film processing, preservation, and
telecine transfer facility located in Rockville, MD.  We process and
transfer projects ranging from independent features to student films and we
preserve all formats of films dating back to the early 1900s.



Colorlab is seeking a qualified person for full-time weekday employment as a
Motion Picture Film Tech.  Responsibilities include:

   - Handling all formats of motion picture film including Regular 8mm,
   Super 8mm, 9.5mm, Regular 16mm, Super 16mm, and 35mm.
   - Hand cleaning and running film through an ultrasonic cleaning machine.
   - Preparing negatives for workprints or telecine transfers.
   - Evaluating archival film elements and creating detailed inspection
   reports.
   - General film preservation including resplicing, repairing perforation
   damage, and other film preservation measures.  Candidates will be trained in
   RePlasticization techniques.



Candidates for the position will have the following qualifications:

   - MUST relocate to or currently reside in the Washington, DC Metro area.

   - Keen interest in film(NOT VIDEO), filmmaking, and film history is a
   must.
   - Interested in making a career in film preservation and film handling.
   Internal advancements and promotions within the company exist for such a
   candidate.
   - MUST have the manual dexterity and patience to work with delicate,
   fragile, and irreplaceable film as well as recently shot original negative.

   - Experience in any or all of the following aspects of handling film:
   splicing, editing with workprints, and working with synchronous magnetic
   sound and/or optical soundtracks.
   - College education in filmmaking/production is preferred but not
   required if you can prove you have the experience and drive.  We will train
   you.
   - Obsessive attention to detail and a passion for the art of
   re-photography.
   - Good handwriting.
   - Able to work well independently on projects and also as part of a
   larger team.
   - US Citizenship and a willingness to submit to background checks.
   - Experience using basic office software such as Excel, Outlook.



Paid on-the-job training will be provided.  Colorlab offers $14/hr to start
with a performance review after three months.  Other benefits include

high manual dexterity. We will offer paid training for the right candidate.




Responsibilities include:

   - Operating Bell and Howell 6101-CS and 6100-C 35mm and 16mm contact
   motion picture film printers with Schmitzer Liquid Gate movements.



Candidates for the position will have the following qualifications:

   - MUST relocate to or currently reside in the Washington, DC Metro area.

   - Obsessive attention to detail and a passion for the art of
   re-photography.
   - Keen interest in film, filmmaking, and film history is a must.
   - MUST have the manual dexterity and patience to work with delicate and
   irreplaceable film as well as recently shot original negative.
   - Experience in any aspects of handling film including splicing and
   repair, leadering, and working with optical soundtracks.
   - High school or GED equivalent.  College degree is not required.
