The Department of Cinema and Comparative Literature at the University of Iowa invites applications for a Film/Video maker with a specialty in Digital Media & New Genres for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position beginning in August 2012.  This position is part of the Public Humanities in a Digital World Cluster initiative.  Applicants must demonstrate interest in dialogue and engagement with intellectual and creative communities across and outside the university. We are looking for an individual with significant experience creating his or her own films/media productions and with experience teaching undergraduates.  Candidates should be prepared to teach in an area of specialization such as sound arts/sound design; digital animation; digital cinematography; new media or video installation in classes offered to undergraduates in the Cinema B.A. program and graduate students in the Film and Video Production MFA Program.  Additional requirements include (1) MFA or equivalent professional/academic experience; (2) a record of artistic accomplishment in digital media / new genres; (3) a record of successful teaching; (4) ability to teach both foundational and advanced video production skills and teaching competence in digital video editing (5) teaching competence in non-fiction and experimental modes of film and video production; (6) ability to work successfully with students of diverse backgrounds; (7) commitment to community outreach.  Those candidates with significant credits in experimental filmmaking are also encouraged to apply. New hires under the Public Humanities in a Digital World Cluster initiative will actively participate in exploring the impact of digital practices on the production of scholarship and creative work in the context of humanities-related research and education.  The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester, advise undergraduate as well as graduate MFA students, and maintain active production of outstanding creative work.
