About Jürgen Reble
Experimental german filmmaker Jürgen Reble was a member of the film  
ensemble Schmelzdahin In the late 1970s and 80s, during which he  
developed his technique of photochemical manipulation of film  
material. Since 1992, he has collaborated with Thomas Köner in film,  
installation and expanded cinema performance. Reble’s work has  
exhibited at MoMA (NY), Museum of the Moving Image (NY), the Pompidou  
Centre (Paris), the Netherlands Film Museum (Amsterdam) and the  
Palais des Beaux-Arts (Brussels). Reble lives and works in Bonn,

About Thomas Köner
Acclaimed innovator in the field of contemporary sound art, Thomas  
Köner is also known as a pioneering multi-media artist. Recipient of  
many prestigious prizes, Köner has presented his work in sound,  
video, installation and performance at Hayward Gallery (London), the  
Pompidou Centre (Paris), Musée d’Orsay (Paris), the International  
Film Festival Rotterdam and the International Short Film Festival  
Oberhausen. His sound installation pieces commissioned by the Musée  
Rimbaud are permanently installed in the Maison Rimbaud in

An influential pioneer of artisanal filmmaking employing the  
techniques of photochemical manipulation, Jürgen Reble is a genuine  
film “alchemist” who transforms his material into a mysterious  
universe of lyrical abstraction. Thomas Köner, one of the key figures  
in minimal electronic music since the 90s and a long-time  
collaborator for Reble’s film and expanded cinema performance,  
creates multi-media artwork whose aesthetic deeply reflects his  
rigorous engagement with specific characteristics inherent to digital  
technologies. His audio-visual investigation of time perception is  
imbued with melancholic and apocalyptic contemplation, unfolding the  
ephemeral state of being. This program presents Köner’s two recent  
videos and Reble’s 16mm film with soundtrack by Köner.
