Not commonly thought of as a dancer I believe Jack Smith should be to
dance
what Jerzy Grotowski is to theater, seminal, indispensable albeit
radical.
See: LITTLE COBRA DANCE (1956) by Ken Jacobs
          also
Jack's part in Jacob's TWO WRENCHING DEPARTURES (2006)
and the passages of his resplendent cavorting in
         STAR SPANGLED TO DEATH.

Ken Jacobs's ONTIC ANTICS STARRING LAUREL AND HARDY;
                          BYE MOLLY (2005)
in places rivals the symmetrical phantasmagories of Busby Berkeley.

Bruce Nauman- WALKING IN AN EXAGGERATED MANNER
AROUND THE PERIMETER OF A SQUARE 1967-68

A collection of unknown videotape excerpts of performances by the dance
collective GRAND UNION
(circa 1972) shown at Anthology Film Archives in Nov. 2007 was
incredible.

Videos by Spike Jonze for Fatboy Slim's WEAPON OF CHOICE with
Christopher Walken and PRAISE YOU made me think again about my
expectations from "dance".

Ben Russell- Trypps #6 (Malobi)

Maya Deren's Unfinished Haitian Footage, the place where
dance merges with trance sine qua non!

and finally that scene in
Robert Nelson's OH DEM WATERMELONS (1965)
where they are kicking the eponymous fruit
down Lombard St. in San Francisco.
