How about the french mainstream comedy “Le Corniaud”, from Gérard Oury with Bourvil and Louis de Funès, in which a cadillac is transformed to hide gold an diamants.

How about La Grande Bouffe, in which Marcello Mastroianni freezes to death in his sports car, maybe a Bugatti?,

To all of these great suggestions for Bryan, I'd like to add The Conformist, which uses a car trip as a central trope.

There's a famous Laurel and Hardy film (whose name I forget at the moment) which includes tearing a car apart in a dispute.
Not about film, per se, but in the 1920s the expansion of relatively inexpensive autos created a certain moral panic around cars as mobile bedrooms for young people who could escape being chaperoned.

To this end I'd love to hear from ya'll with titles of films that you think might be useful to explore/expand this idea and readings that might also dovetail themes that might be explored.
