Robert Nelson's Oh Dem Watermelons (1965) could be interesting in a consideration of a liberal/progressive white imagination of the era.  The music is by Steve Reich. The film was made as part of the San Francisco Mime Troupe's A MINSTREL SHOW, OR CIVIL RIGHTS IN A CRACKER BARREL.  I think it's available from Canyon, but there are (unauthorized?) copies on youtube.

SLEEP preceded by Satie ... an interesting idea. Wish I were there.
