[Frameworks] New England Media Symposium

Dear Framework community, 

I want to let you know about the New England Graduate Media Symposium (www.negmediasymposium.com), to be hosted on February 14, 2014 by Emerson College. 

This event is free and open to the public, and we are proud to welcome keynote speaker Su Friedrich to present at this year’s event. Please share this message and the attached fliers.

The New England Graduate Media Symposium is an annual, one-day event hosted by the Visual and Media Arts Department of Emerson College. The purpose of this symposium is to create an occasion for graduate students to formally present media based work to each other, faculty, and professional colleagues. The symposium intends to foster the spirit and practice of exchange, collaboration, and intellectual community among members of the area’s various graduate programs, and to function as a springboard for future projects.

For the inaugural year, Performing Actuality: How Reality is Re-presented, will showcase media artwork and scholarship interrogating the interplay between actuality and fiction, non-fiction and performance, and the objective and subjective. These works bring to the foreground the contrivance of their own depiction of truth and challenge the interaction and participation of subject: viewer: and maker.

The Symposium is open to all graduate students and recent graduate students in New England currently doing artistic and/or academic work in film, media, media theory, performance and other related fields. The submission guidelines and application will remain open until DECEMBER 31, 2013. Materials can be time-based, interactive, performative, or paper/panel presentations.
