[Frameworks] LGBT Footage Sought

Info info at oddballfilm.com
Thu Jan 9 22:49:41 UTC 2014

Hello all:

We are working on several projects involving archival LGBT footage.
While we have a large collection of film and related tape we are looking to supplement footage we already have with
footage from independent and amateur filmmakers.
Anything era and any footage will be considered though there is a preference for anything with a film back.
Anyone who has this type of footage please contact me off list at info at odddballfilm.com and we can discuss further.
Thanks!

Best regards,

Stephen Parr

One of the best variations on workers leaving the factory, Standish Lawder’s “Necrology.” To object that these people aren’t necessarily leaving work is to ignore the fact that we all work in the social factory every day. In that sense, we never leave work.

Dear Frameworkers,

I would like to build a list of video art and films which look at aspects, concepts and realities of work. One piece I came across recently is Johan van der Keuken's Temps/Travail (1999).

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Harun Farocki's "In Comparison" might be a good suggestion

“Modern Times”-style factory scenes in narrative films are endless and not relevant to this query, but I’ll take the opportunity to remember the marvelous sausage factory scene with Bulle Ogier in Alain Tanner’s “La Salamandre” (1971). An entirely different spin, again not relevant here, is the factory sequence at the beginning of “Saturday Night and Sunday Morning” (1960), with Albert Finney and the rat.

Subject: [Frameworks] Films/Videos looking at concepts of work

Dear Frameworkers,

I would like to build a list of video art and films which look at aspects, concepts and realities of work. One piece I came across recently is Johan van der Keuken's Temps/Travail (1999).

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Insa

I feel like I've seen notices of a couple screenings here and there
revolving around Workers Leaving the Factory that would have relevant work
in em. Here's one we had here in Austin

I've attempted contact to Kim directly via her email twice since she posted her original waiver offer, but have yet to receive a response. When I saw someone post a request yesterday, I thought I'd join him on list with another request in the hope that she might respond. Still waiting...

The most important thing that has to be attempted is, on the one hand, to maintain the conversation–if nothing else,
about art–and on the other hand, not to allow such an experiment to end in chatter.

might be hard to get a great sense of the work from this documentation of his work at the last Venice biennale, but some pieces by Ali Kazma's could be worth looking at:

In addition to already mentioned Farocki titles, see “An Image” (1983), meticulous document of a four-day Playboy Centerfold shoot.

might be hard to get a great sense of the work from this documentation of his work at the last Venice biennale, but some pieces by Ali Kazma's could be worth looking at:

The most important thing that has to be attempted is, on the one hand, to maintain the conversation–if nothing else,
about art–and on the other hand, not to allow such an experiment to end in chatter.

I would like to build a list of video art and films which look at aspects, concepts and realities of work. One piece I came across recently is Johan van der Keuken's Temps/Travail (1999).

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

There's a film series at a gallery in Portland right now that is sort of in
this vein. The theme is production of goods, but it seems like it might
relate. The list of films is on their site:

I don't think they're at the Video Data Bank (as Oona suggested), but they
should be!

I'd contact her partner, Josh McPhee. I don't have his info, but I think
he's findable on the web. Maybe Dara's website has been updated with info
on renting her work.

One of her pieces showed in a retrospective program at the Chicago
Underground Film Festival last year. Check with them (Bryan Wendorf).

I just submitted a short film by physical mail, and noted on the form that
I was a member of the Frameworks list and had requested a waiver. We will
see if that does any good.

I had a different email address for Josh which I just sent Scott off list.
For the screening of Bouncing in the Corner at this past CUFF he just had

Hi All!,
I've got Women's Punk Art Making Party, of which Dara did the section, "Puppet Girl." Which is pretty damn awesome. From 1993.

Here it is: https://vimeo.com/35732187

I had a different email address for Josh which I just sent Scott off list. For the screening of Bouncing in the Corner at this past CUFF he just had us download it from the vimeo page Chris just posted.

Thanks Roger, and apologies to all those people to whom I haven't yet replied. I've been without a computer for the past week. Bear with me!

You people realize this is a listserv, right? You need to email Kim directly rather than just "replying" to messages sent to the listserv. That will be true on Frameworks forever. (If you're going to inadvertently send your message to 1000 people, please make sure it's something really embarrassing!)

Welcome to 2014.

He was a good friend of our festival. We were happy to have him here the past two years teaching a workshop, participating in our research forum, and of course presenting a program of his films. He will be missed. God bless and rest in peace.

A new volume "Work in Cinema" was just released, edited by Ewa Mazierska. Haven't read it yet but I'm eager to.
