Lecturer/Associate Professor Positions in Media Studies and Journalism

Xi'an Jiaotong - Liverpool University - Department of English, Culture and Communication

Applications are invited for positions in the Department of English, Culture and Communication at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Suzhou, near Shanghai. The Department currently has 18 academic staff and over 400 students, and specialises in applied linguistics, literary and cultural studies, and communication and media. Successful applicants will have, or expect shortly to receive, a PhD, or be able to demonstrate appropriate professional experience. They will have good teaching experience and evidence of the ability to produce high quality research publications. Candidates for the role of Associate Professor should also have a strong track record in teaching and academic supervision, as well as an international research profile in their field and a successful record of research funding. Candidates with teaching and research expertise in media studies, new and digital media, and journalism are encouraged to apply.

Xi’an Jiaotong- Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a unique collaborative institution, the first and currently the only university in China to offer both UK (University of Liverpool) and Chinese (Ministry of Education) accredited undergraduate degrees. Formed in 2006, the first cohort of students graduated in August 2010. The university now has 7,000 students studying on campus. The language of instruction in Years 2 to 4 is English. XJTLU aims to become truly research-led, and has recently committed significant investment into research development and the expansion of PhD student numbers on campus. The Department of English, Culture and Communication currently offers five undergraduate degree programmes in English and Communication Studies, Applied English, and Communication Studies, English and Finance, English and International Business and the MA TESOL programme. A Masters in Communication Studies is due to commence in 2015. It is well-equipped with cutting-edge facilities, including a dedicated interpreting laboratory, an SDLTrados professional translation laboratory, and a Digital Media Production Laboratory.
