Dear Friends and Colleagues,

PRAGDA is glad to announce an EXTENDED deadline for applications to a grant to organize a SPANISH FILM CLUB (SFC) festival at universities in North America and Canada: APRIL 15, 2014.

Twice a year, SPANISH FILM CLUB offers grants to help universities bring the very best in contemporary Spanish and Latin American cinema to campuses and to introduce students to the language and cultures of these territories. Professors all around the country are calling SFC "an oasis in a cultural desert," "one of the best things to ever happen for our community," and "a definite success!"

Universities select a minimum of five films from a catalog of 37 titles to create a film festival on campus. Representing 19 countries, the films have been carefully selected by a team of experts and are backed by the most important festivals and film critics. SPANISH FILM CLUB also encourages the organization of virtual Q&As with filmmakers and provides all the necessary material for its promotion.

New films this cycle include award-winning titles like the endearing BAD HAIR (Venezuela), the new documentary by Gael Garcia Bernal WHO IS DAYANI CRYSTAL? (Mexico), the breathtaking ETERNAL AMAZON (Brazil), the gripping real story of OPERATION E (Spain, Colombia), the beautifully animated WRINKLES (Spain), the thought provoking and inspiring YVY MARAEY: LAND WITHOUT EVILl (Bolivia), the outstandingly performed ILLITERATE (Chile), the deeply moving COWS WEARING GLASSES (Puerto Rico), the intriguing thriller THE FACILITATOR (Ecuador, Chile), the insightful I THOUGHT IT WAS A PARTY (Argentina, Spain), starring the captivating Elena Anaya, the Goya Award nominated and entertaining documentary, BAREFOOT IN THE KITCHEN (Spain), on the portrayal of women in Spanish Cinema directed by celebrated film critic Diego Galán, and the smashing box office success 7 BOXES (Paraguay).
