Same emulsion, different base.
The polyester base is tougher and will last longer in a projector. The
acetate base can be cement-spliced.
You would want the acetate if you were using the positive film to make a
(reversed left to right) interpositive from a negative original that you
were going to edit into a reversal film.
You would want the acetate if you were going to have a film that was B&W
but had a few color scenes hand-edited into the print with cement.
You would want the polyester if you were making a print that was going out
to festivals and was going to be handled by people who were less than
careful.
