I'm trying to figure out if there is an expiration date somewhere in the printed matter in there, and feeling rather dim.

I believe Kodak used to put expiration dates on super-8 products sold under the "consumer" label.
Since super8 is now part of the regular "professional" catalog, there are no expiration dates on these products.
There is a manufacturer's code on the box which tells Kodak from which batch the roll comes from.
If you call Kodak and give them that number, they should be able to give you an approximate date of manufacture.
