Alfred Guzzettti made two pieces like this. One is "Calcutta Intersection" (2003), a ten-minute shot looking down on an intersection from a hotel balcony in an upscale neighborhood, with direct sound, while text from several Calcutta newspapers that morning scrolls across the bottom, with local news and personal care advice. You end up thinking about the Calcutta that isn’t on the screen.

The other is “America Central” (2004) a seven-minute shot of a street in a small rural town in Nicaragua, while we hear a CNN broadcast in that town with its relentless focus on Washington, D.C. as if no other place exists on earth.

I'd offer up two of my films:

MONONGAHELA GHOST TRAIN - http://vimeo.com/halprin/monongahelaghosttrain
(2 shots - 1 with camera from fixed position on a slow-moving funicular, the other from a fixed position looking back up at the vehicle. Shot in Pittsburgh, PA.)

and

ALL NIGHT & ALL DAY - http://vimeo.com/halprin/allnightallday
(A handful of timelapse shots, all but 1 of which maintain a fixed position. Shot from the west side of Chicago.)

Also, JB Mabe, who is on this list shot a single take fixed camera piece of an intersection in Chicago a few years back. It's not on his Vimeo page, but perhaps he'd chime in?

You could find something in some Peter Hutton's landscape films:

New York Portrait Part 1, 2 ,3

Landscape for Manon

Boston Fire

...

It's more like some extended single shots during the film process, but taken from a fixed position.

You can find some essays about him in La Furia Umana (LFU/21) :

Enrico Camporesi
Urban Sensuality. Five Notes Around Peter Hutton's New York Portrait Trilogy

Benjamin Léon
Peter Hutton et les fantômes de l'Hudson River School : L’image suspendue (espace, regard, mythe)

http://www.lafuriaumana.it/?id=228

And La Furia Umana paper #6 :

...

Best.

Hi,

I’m looking for single-shot fixed camera landscape/cityscape films, as “Empire” by Andy Warhol or “Fog Line” by Larry Gottheim. When I say “landscape/cityscape” I mean it in the broadest sense of the term, I’m interested in all kinds of landscapes/cityscapes, with or without human figures.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!
Blanca
