Bucknell University’s Presidential Arts Initiative, comprised of faculty
and directors from the campus arts departments and centers, seeks a guest
artist for its Arts First Pre-Orientation Program
<http://www.bucknell.edu/ArtsPre-Orientation>. Scheduled from August 14th
through 18th, Arts First provides an intensive interdisciplinary
introduction to the arts and creativity for approximately sixty incoming
first year students and upper class mentors under the guidance of Bucknell
arts faculty.

The ideal candidate will be an artist from any field (creative writing,
dance, film, music, theatre arts, visual arts) whose creative work engages
other disciplines. Undergraduate teaching experience is essential and
preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated success in
facilitating interdisciplinary projects with students. In addition to
discussing their work and providing masterclasses in their field, the guest
artist will interact with students throughout the week and collaborate with
Bucknell arts faculty to curate a public performative student project. The
successful candidate may have the opportunity to return to campus in the
fall semester for similar interdisciplinary work with upperclassmen.

Travel, lodging, and a $3,000 honorarium will be provided. To apply,
please send a letter of interest, CV, and samples of your work to Prof.
Barry Long, University Arts Coordinator, at barry.long at bucknell.edu. The
position will remain open until filled and review of applications will
begin immediately.

*About Arts First **Arts First* is a five-day opportunity for students in
the Class of 2019 to learn about the rich and distinctive possibilities the
arts have to offer at Bucknell. The focus is on exploring the arts
generally instead of developing any specific skill or craft. In addition to
engaging in creative work, students will have the opportunity to learn
about Bucknell's art centers and academic programs, arts-focused student
clubs, and entrepreneurship and leadership opportunities. Students will
work with visiting artists and Bucknell faculty in the disciplines of
theatre, dance, music, art, art history, creative writing, and film and
media. Students will also collaborate on a final, performative project that
will be featured during Bucknell's annual arts festival.

This special arts pre-orientation includes but is not exclusive to
Bucknell's Arts Merit Scholars and Arts Residential College students. The
program is designed for incoming Bucknell undergraduate students who enjoy
or are interested in the arts, plan to have careers related to or
associated with the arts or who are artists. *Arts First.* does not require
students to have any formal arts preparation, although experienced artists
are welcome and encouraged to attend. Students need only be interested in
discovering the possibilities of art with other like-minded peers.
