Greetings Frameworkers!
*Negativland Motion Picture Lab*, a new artist-run film workspace in
Brooklyn, NY (technically Ridgwood) is proud to announce its first
workshop:
"*Preparing yourself for the Film Apocalypse: An Introduction to Working in
an Artist-Run Film Lab*. The laboratory will be taught by myself and Simon
Liu on *December 5 & 6 from 11-5*. It centers on teaching 3 key tools in
standard use at artist-run labs around the world: the LOMO processing
spiral, the BH model-J Contact printer, and the JK optical printer. Here's
the blurb:
*"In this two-day intensive workshop, participants will learn the basic
tools and procedures for working in an artist-run film lab. The lab
focuses on three key pieces of equipment: *
*participants will learn how to develop 16mm and Super-8 film in a LOMO
processing tank, operate a16mm Bell and Howell Model J Contact Printer, and
learn the basic functions of the JK Optical Printer. With a maximum of 7
participants, each person will receive time on each piece of equipment and
together we will process 16mm and Super-8 black and white negatives, make
contact prints from those negatives, then blow-up our super-8 film to 16mm
and burn in titles on the JK optical printer. *
*These are not only the principal tools in use at Negativland MPL, but they
are also the*
*standand in artist-run labs around the world. For those interested in
completing films on film, this is the necessary starting point for doing it
yourself."*
