Could it be Who Killed Walter Benjamin, (Dir David Mauas, 2005)?   http://www.ruthfilms.com/who-killed-walter-benjamin.html

I am not sure if this is the film you are thinking of, and my recollection is, as with its title, it mostly throws doubt onto Benjamin’s suicide.  However, I do recall the film did making mention of the missing valise.
