Dominique Benichetti's *Cousin Jules *(1972)

Also see films by Gu Tao (*The Last Moose of Aoluguya*) and Yu Guangyi (*The
Last Lumberjacks*)

These might not be avant-garde, depending on your definition, but these are
what first came to mind.
