[Frameworks] transferring films to dvd.

I enjoy dvd collections by Brakhage, Baillie, and ohter experimental films. available on this format (however ultimately compromised…I know).
Is the DVD format still something that filmmakers are using to distribute collections of their films or is the digital technology going somewhere else these days?
I have put some of my own films on DVD, but wondering if this is something to continue.
