 Since 1872, traditionally on a Sunday, people have gathered at Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park, London, for lively open-air public speaking, debate and discussion. Speakers’ Corner is a place named and determined by performance. This audio-visual performance will recontextualise images and sounds captured at Speakers’ Corner to become an examination of the dynamics of the performance of opinion and belief. The visual aspect, which will be created by Martin Blažíček, is a result of ongoing experiments with digital-analogue frameworks for image-based performance, using live sampling and editing based on the Thaumatrope, a 19th century pre-cinematic toy. The sound will be performed by Steven Ball combining recordings of speakers with their live spoken word re-articulation.
