Denver, Colorado 80216: GLOB
8 PM - 10 PM MST, 3551 Brighton Blvd
SPECTRA EPHEMERA: KARISSA HAHN IN PERSON!
We're so excited to host KARISSA HAHN tonight! A polymath artist exploring every corner of medialand from SUPER 8 to PERFORMANCE to INSTALLATION, LA-BASED KARISSA's work is concerned with the material properties of celluloid and the ubiquitous realm of the data pool. Many of her films currently exist in short-form and act as investigations that are conceived in chaos and displayed in calm; a spectra ephemera. Whether re-creating centuries-old PORTRAITS through modern technology or testing the PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS of the technology-\-\often at great risk-\-\KARISSA investigates and interrogates UBIQUITOUS CODES, MONTAGE, and other givens of the cinematic apparatus; or, as she says, "destruction of the illusion of digital rhetoric." Ultimately, much of her work aims at letting the machines record what they want, free of human "construction." Come welcome KARISSA HAHN to Denver!!

NOV.19: PRELINGER’S SORTING THE ARCHIVES + YOUR FILM LIBRARY+
Arguably America’s most enlightened intelligence on Archival Film, we're honored to host this crown jewel of the SF-based Internet Archive, Mr. Rick Prelinger, with another relaxed exchange on intellectual history and its easy and useful access. His talk turns away from the idea of “repositories of the past” towards understanding them as pointers to the future. And on that note: Here Comes the Librarians, our activist cultural saviors fer sure, with a half-hour opener on the SF Public Library’s film collection! YOW!! We’re in for some City-owned 16mm treats, plus a marvelous personal-research story on the Ghost of Charles S. Capp (Street). And HEY!: Bring books to give away at our annual Potlatch, and so to take Others away!! *$8 if book-bound or $9 if not.

Says Svalina, “I (will) write the dreams, without consultation with the dreamer. Each dream is unique to the dreamer/subscriber. THE WAY OUT IS THE WAY TWO: CAULEEN SMITH IN PERSON
Experimental Response Cinema is proud to present THE WAY OUT IS THE WAY TWO, a feature-length “constellation of 14 short films” by acclaimed artist and filmmaker (and former Austin resident) Cauleen Smith, with the artist in person. The Way Out Is The Way Two, produced over a period of four years, is an interlocking series of shorts ranging in subject from African-American identity, the psycho-geography of the city of Chicago, Afrofuturism, and the ideas and music of Sun Ra. Cauleen Smith (born Riverside, California, 1967) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work reflects upon the everyday possibilities of the imagination. Operating in multiple materials and arenas, Smith roots her work firmly within the discourse of mid-twentieth-century experimental film. Drawing from structuralism, third world cinema, and science fiction, she makes things that deploy the tactics of these disciplines while offering a phenomenological experience for spectators and participants.
