Maybe somebody has already pointed to this: https://lux.org.uk/writing/revisiting-brakhage-4-abstract-expressionism-nature-radical-aspiration-film. It seems so obvious. Although I have never painted directly in film, I have achieved "abstract expressionistic" effects using mu own technique which I call aquamation. Here is a link to the film titled "AE" which is an obvious reference to abstract expressionism: https://vimeo.com/47829480.

Can anyone site an example of "abstract expressionist" painting onto film prior to 1968? (Hopefully with online viewing availability).
