The Department of Film, Animation and Video in the Division of Fine Arts 
seeks applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of 
Assistant/Associate Professor to commence fall 2018.

Rhode Island School of Design recognizes diversity and inclusivity as

Required Qualifications

The department seeks a filmmaker with a bachelor’s degree and 
appropriate professional experience in film and media production. The 
candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching college level students 
with a wide range of interests in cross-disciplinary applications of the 
film medium. Good interpersonal skills, clarity, generosity, and 
creativity in both personal work and teaching are essential. Team 
teaching and working well with others must be evident in the application 
and/or letters of support. The applicant must also possess a strong 
record of creating film and video with a demonstrated record of 
accomplishment in either narrative, documentary, or experimental modes.

The ideal candidate is experienced in small-crew production; well versed 
in inspiring students to create engaging and original work that meets 
professional standards and reflects serious practice. They must be able 
to support a culturally diverse group of students in the development of 
their individual voice, and be committed to student progress in their 
chosen field. Candidates should exhibit the capacity to provide 
constructive feedback on and support students conceptually, technically, 
and have extensive knowledge in at least three of the following areas: 
editing, cinematography, directing, scriptwriting, lighting, sound 
design, and digital and 16mm motion picture production. Faculty must 
motivate students to grow creatively, intellectually, and artistically 
as well as help students develop excellent production skills and 
articulate critical thinking skills.
