''Do NLE’s have any influence on the aesthetic results of a film
process? Or are they just like rewinds and Steenbecks and KEMs — the
film doesn’t care what machine you edit on.''
In the field of mainstream narrative cinema NLEs have changed editing,
the most profound change has been in the speed of the editing itself.
It used to take from three to six months to edit a feature film, now
producers want to have a final cut in 2 to 3 weeks, sometimes even
sooner. And some films are even being ''pre-edited'' as they are being
shot, on set.
