[Frameworks] CALIGARI, Issue 02

Dear Frameworkers,

Issue 02 of CALIGARI, a multimedia periodical of cinema, arts, and letters,
is now live. I hope you’ll have a chance to check it out when the time is
right.


Issue 02 features filmmaker Adam Piron, AD of the Sundance Institute's
Indigenous Program & co-founder of Cousin Collective, who writes about his
search for the DeMille Indians, a group of Indigenous performers who set
off to form their own tribe in 1940s Hollywood; filmmaker and novelist
Sandi Tan, director of Shirkers (on Netflix) and author of Lurkers (Soho
Press), has a piece about her favorite movie soundtracks; filmmaker
Courtney Stephens presents a photo essay about Hollywood Blvd, with text by
Pierre Klossowski; there are interviews with artist/filmmaker Kevin Jerome
Everson, who talks about the films he made during the pandemic, and
philosopher Donatella Di Cesare, who discusses the ongoing breathing
catastrophe and the book she wrote during the pandemic (now out w
Semiotexte); art historian Daniel Spaulding presents an essay on the
photorealistic paintings of LA-based artist Sayre Gomez; there's a short
video of poet Diane Burns (1956-2006) performing "Alphabet City Serenade,"
and Penelope Uribe-Abee, founder of People’s Pantry LA, contributes to this
issue’s column on dinner & a movie by recommending Charlie Chaplin’s The
Kid (1921) and Modern Times (1936) and sharing a recipe for Sopa de Fideo.
