Dear friends and colleagues,

I'd like to invite you to the *World Premiere* of my feature film *ragtag*
at the *79th Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica*, to be held in
Venice from August 31st to September 10th , 2022. The film will be

skillfully attuned to the social fantastic and the oneiric quality of the
films.*

*RAGTAG* is a chronological timeline collage based on a wide corpus of
footage taken from the so-called classic era of American cinema which 1950s
, *après la lettre*, French critics labeled film *noir*. The
decoupage-based work covers roughly twenty years, or 310 noir films,
spanning from the early 1940s to the late 1950s. It also includes some
foreign-made film noirs.  As an extensive historical portrait of the human
psyche of the twentieth century and its dark pre and post-war landscape,
the film lets the past be inscribed in a present gesture, as its own
“operative field”. As an act of perpetual destruction and creation, a sort
of ouroboros, a tail-devourer that roams on the threshold between history
and desire, visible and invisible, light and shadow.

abilmente intonati all’immaginario collettivo del fantastico, in sintonia

*RAGTAG* è un collage di ordine storico cronologico, basato su un ampio
corpus di filmati tratti dalla cosiddetta epoca classica del cinema
americano, definito, après la lettre, dai critici francesi degli anni
Cinquanta, film noir. L'opera, costruita per découpage, copre circa
vent'anni, attraverso 310 film noir, dai primi anni Quaranta alla fine
degli anni Cinquanta. Include anche alcuni film noir di produzione
straniera.  Ponendosi, di riflesso, come ampio ritratto storico della
psiche umana del XX secolo e del suo oscuro paesaggio pre e post bellico,
il film lascia che il passato si iscriva in un gesto presente, all’interno
di una propria campitura. Come in un atto di distruzione e creazione
perpetua, una sorta di uroboro, intento a divorare la propria coda, il film
si muove sulla soglia tra Storia e desiderio, visibile e invisibile, luce e
ombra.
