Spinning rust, yes. You can also use solid state drives but these are much more expensive and - little known fact - they can only be written to a finite number of times.

I recommend helium drives with less friction between the platters. Good research has been done that helium drives report much fewer errors and last a few years longer.

Cloud storage: it’s not a cloud but a mountain full of hard drives and air conditioners, not ecologically friendly….
