What really helps is using an old record player to spin the spirals evenly. The heavier, the better. 
Also, check (in light) if/how your spirals are exactly parallel. Sometimes they only are in a certain position. Memorize or mark that position, or, if possible, carefully grind a bumpy center to become more parallel. A third thing that can help (with parallelity as well as distance) are spacers. Use whatever fits, washers might be too thick, 1-2 layers of plastic binder cutouts might do the trick. The dry film should be able to move freely in the grove. 

If you the. Hold the film 90° rotated while spinning the spiral, and maintain the right, even tension, you should get perfect results. 

Practice in daylight, again and again, until it works out perfectly.
