[Frameworks] scans - negs or prints?

hey folks
i'm pondering the relative merits of scanning 16mm neg vs workprints / release prints - any thoughts?
I've tried both and I'm finding that flat/log scans of neg are not so easy to correct (with either Davinci Resolve or Avid) - I'm wondering if I'd be better off scanning the prints? (which are from Colorlab, whose timing is always gorgeous ...)
