By all means give it a go, or get someone local who does projector work or
older appliance repair to help you.  Lube all the lube points while you
have the cover off.  If you get stuck you're not any worse off than you
started out.

I haven't touched a Steenbeck in thirty years, since I have Magnasync
Moviola flatbeds.... the Moviolas use stepper motors where the Steenbecks
and KEMs used mechanical linkages, so they are mechanically much simpler
and electronically much more complex.
