> 1. I want to install a video on a flat screen TV and I want to mount the TV on the wall vertically. (That is, not 16:9 but 9:16.) The exhibition will be on for 20 days and the TV will be running 8 hours a day. The equipment rental guy I've been speaking to says that mounting the TV vertically might create alignment issues in the future and would be harmful to the equipment. Is this true?

I can't give a definitive answer, but I'm guessing that depends in part on the size and type of the display. I don't think it would be a good idea to mount a plasma screen vertically, given the heat generation. An LCD would be another matter. Many LCD panel computer displays can be rotated from landscape to portrait. I've seen commercial installations where large screen LCDs were mounted in portrait orientation. I would think, then, that the only issue with an LCD would be whether the chassis of the individual model in question was designed and/or mounted to the rear plate in a way that it supports the weight horizontally but not vertically. That strikes me as unlikely. Also, I have no idea what kind of 'alignment' issues would come into play on an LCD panel. It's not like they've got yokes and coils and trimpots and whatnot. I think your rental guy is covering his butt (suspecting your rental will cause SOME kind of trouble) and making stuff up.
