[Frameworks] Eiki Parts Question.

I've brought my focus knob down to the hardware store & found a satisfactory solution with a small bit of vinyl tubing...  New knobs are available from Richard Patchett in Michigan: http://www.rcsclassic16mm.com/

The only difference is that new knobs are fused together to the shaft & the original knob part (for my SL anyway) is thicker than the new ones...

Best,
Zach

Also check out Christopher Harris' SUNSHINE STATE (Extended Forcast). I believe
he was in consultation with Tom Comerford on that project as well.

I'd also track down Robert Schaller (who should be lurking somewhere on this list...), whose made a number of films on hand-made pinhole cameras (as opposed to pin-hole attachments for manufactured cameras). I believe he uses small pieces of copper sheet for the lens material.

Hello All,

I've got a few Eiki projectors that have those nice little rubber grommet-type things in the focus knob that have rotted out. I assume this is a typical problem with older projectors. Does anyone know a good place to get these besides cannibalizing other projectors for parts? Any help appreciated!

Hi Mike -

I'm assuming your talking about 16mm projectors....David Tetzlaff has a
great page about fixing this:

http://djt16.110mb.com/

Also, Alain LeTourneau and others have suggested using tiny rubber o-rings that you can find in hardware stores.  I've tried this -- it's easy and it works!  You could also check the frameworks archives for more suggestions.

Hi Mike,

David Tetzlaff has a pretty good fix for this using some heat shrink
tubing:

 http://djt16.110mb.com/Eiki%20knob%20fix.pdf

I've fixed them before using two layers of aquarium tubing, but the heat
shrink should be a little easier to work with.

Talking of which, I am looking for a 25mm or similar Eiki / Elf projector lens. If anyone has one they'd like to sell, lend or hire, please contact me,

Thanks,

Nicky Hamlyn.

You're speaking of the little roller piece that contacts the barrel of the
lens directly, yeah? A friend of mine used to fix the same problem on his
Eiki with those heat-shrinking rubber tubes that you use to finish off the
ends of hand-made cables, you can buy packets of them in different gauges at
Home Depot or an electronics store. Seems to work just as well if not
better!

cheers

Mike in Dallas...

Try O-rings. Remove the focus knob and shaft from lens housing, remove
degraded focus pad and replace with O-rings. You can experiment with
different densities for providing the right amount of friction against the
lens barrel. The O-rings will work better than most other solutions...

Best,
Alain
