SIGHT UNSEEN PRESENTS: THE FILMS OF MARY HELENA CLARK
Sight Unseen is a new roaming monthly screening series showcasing
experimental film, video, and live cinematic performance. This series
invites recognized pioneers and emerging innovators of moving image
media to participate in screenings throughout Baltimore. - For the
inaugural event of our series, we are very excited to host ex-Baltimore
filmmaker and curator, Mary Helena Clark for an evening of her films,
followed by a Q&A and dance party DJ'ed by Secret Weapon Dave who
recently performed at the closing night party of the Maryland Film
Festival)! - $5 all night - TRT: 53 minutes - FILM DESCRIPTIONS, After
Writing (4m, 2008) - Scraps of text gathered from molding filmstrips and
peeling chalkboards are photographed and intercut with pinhole shots
from a schoolhouse. - And The Sun Flowers (5m, 2008) - Based on the true
story of the wallpaper in my bedroom. - Sound Over Water (5m, 2009) -
Blue water and blue sky meet on emulsion. My friend Nathan gave me
photos from the first roll of 35mm film he ever shot. It was his

Sleeping (9m, 2010) - A found footage collage film. "This is your
  life. It rides like a dream." - By Foot-Candle Light (9m, 2011) - A

and stray transmissions built on the bad geometry of point-of-view
shots. - Orpheus (outtakes) (6m, 2012) - An impossible film project:
Buster Keaton stars in the outtakes from Jean Cocteau's Orpheus, made by
me for the cutting room floor. - Everything but the Elephants, for

8:30 PM, Second Unitarian Church of Chicago, 656 W. Barry Ave.

DEVOTIONAL CINEMA: NEW FILMS BY DORSKY, CLIPSON, AND TODD
In his book Devotional Cinema, Nathaniel Dorsky argues how filmmaking
can be a form of prayer, a rendering of unseen mysteries in our midst
that can become for the viewer a kind of transcendent experience. His
films are luminous testimonies of this belief, and his new films The
Return (2011, 27 min., silent) and Pastourelle (2010, 17 min., silent)
elevate visions of nature to ecstatic proportions. Other films on the
program share a kindred spirit. Within (2011, 8.5 min.) by Robert Todd
evokes a deep sense of mystery by capturing objects on the edge of
perception. Union (2010, 15 min.) by Paul Clipson layers mythic images
  into a delirious incantation. (2010–11, 68 min. total, 16mm)

2012, 8PM at Arbor. Paul Clipson uses multiple exposures, dissolves and
macro imagery to create largely improvised studies, edited in-camera on
Super 8mm film, bringing to light subconscious preoccupations and
unexpected visual forms. Evan Caminiti (Barn Owl, Higuma) creates sound
that draws on the psychedelic, kosmische, and meditative influences.
Together they create a hypnotic and ever-changing audio-visual
composition. Shapeshifters Cinema is a new live cinema series featuring
