** Cherry Kino presents:
Analogue Filmmaking Workshops!
------------------------------------------------------------

** in Leeds, Bristol and London this Autumn!
------------------------------------------------------------
Cherry Kino is delighted to announce six analogue filmmaking workshops in October, November and December, to help 2012 go out in style! As the chill and blustery autumn nights start to roll in and the sky darkens, the art of cinema beckons... A time to take film into your own hands and make unique and imaginative moving image creations.

Analogue film is truly the alchemist's art form - abstract and narrative, colour and black and white, processed and cross-processed in a heady mix of different substances (even in coffee). Learn to make your own Super 8 films at home, explore 16mm black and white 'rayogram' filmmaking, make a 16mm colour film without a camera, create double exposures and solarize film, or process film in coffee - take your pick!

The four workshops in Leeds will take place as part of the excellent Leeds International Film Festival, 1st - 18th November, at Patrick Studios, East Street Arts.

Full info about the workshops is below. To book, just send an email to: cherrykinocinema at yahoo.com

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn!

** Super 8 Filmmaking Workshop
@ The Cube (Bristol)
------------------------------------------------------------
Sat 13th & Sun 14th October, 10am - 5pm, £80, maximum 8 people. The Cube, Bristol, BS2 8JD.

A really popular workshop that's fun and very comprehensive, with everything you need to know to continue making Super 8 films at home! Over two days you'll learn how to operate top-end Super 8 cameras and shoot, hand-process, and hand-edit your very own 50ft colour film! You’ll also have the option to cross-process your film and apply extra vibrant colours using inks.

** Super 8 b/w Filmmaking, Developed in Coffee! (Leeds)
------------------------------------------------------------
Thursday 8th November, 10am - 5pm, £40, maximum 8 people. Patrick Studios, LS9 7EH.

Millions enjoy coffee every morning, but did you know that you can actually develop cine film in it? Coffee, washing soda and vitamin C are the ingredients in ‘Caffenol’ - it works an absolute treat and is about as eco as film processing gets! After shooting one film between two with a Super 8 camera, you’ll hand-process it as a nice contrasty negative in Caffenol. A brilliant one-day Super 8 crash course with (ahem) loads of free coffee!

** Super 8 Filmmaking Workshop (Leeds)
------------------------------------------------------------
Sat 3rd & Sun 4th November, 10am - 5pm, £80, maximum 8 people. Patrick Studios, LS9 7EH.

Cherry Kino wishes to say a heartfelt thank you to the Leeds International Film Festival for their continued support over the years (and for the mind-bogglingly great event they put on every November!), and also to East Street Arts, who make Cherry Kino's activity not only possible but also extremely pleasurable!

** 16mm Colour Printing Workshop (Leeds)
------------------------------------------------------------
Wed 7th November, 2pm - 5pm, £25, maximum 6 people. Patrick Studios, LS9 7EH.

A 16mm filmmaking session on creating a colour film without a camera, using the DIY ‘flat printing’ method – colour filmmaking in a nutshell! By laying filmstrips, objects, and colour gels over the raw 16mm stock, using glass to press them down and then flashing it with light, we will create a collaborative colour film on 16mm, made entirely without a camera! We’ll also explore fun techniques such as making double exposures, and solarizing the film during processing.

** 16mm b/w Rayogram Workshop (Leeds)
------------------------------------------------------------
Wed 7th November, 10am - 1pm, £25, maximum 6 people. Patrick Studios, LS9 7EH.

A dynamic introduction to 16mm filmmaking at its most accessible! We will lay small everyday objects on the raw 16mm film stock and expose it to light, creating ‘rayograms’ on the filmstrip and then processing it in a bucket. This is a great starting point for creating abstract black and white cine films, and proves that filmmaking can be done cheaply and without the need for specialist equipment!

** DIY Film Emulsion @ no.w.here Lab (London)
------------------------------------------------------------
Sat 1st December, 10am-5pm, £90/£120. no.w.here Lab.

Make your own 16mm film stock from scratch! Using the basic ingredients of silver nitrate, potassium bromide, water, and shop-bought gelatine used for puddings, we'll mix up our own emulsion in the dark, layer it onto clear 16mm film stock under a red safe light, and then shoot, hand-process and watch it! We'll also have a colouring and tinting table to add vibrant colours to sections of our work. To book onto this workshop please call (0)207 7294494.
