Pentacle, a not-for-profit management support organization for dance, is
pleased to bring its dance film series, Kinetic Cinema to Beacon for four
screenings and workshops in late May and June.

*Kinetic Cinema* is a series in which guest artists are invited to show
dance films and videos that have been influential to their own work. From
motion capture animation to Michael Jackson music videos, from Gene Kelly
musicals to Kenneth Anger films, Kinetic Cinema is dedicated to the
recognition and appreciation for "moving" pictures. Pentacle has presented
these evenings for the past five years throughout New York City and is
currently running the series at Spectacle Theatre in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

In Beacon, *Kinetic Cinema* will feature three acclaimed artists working at
the intersection of dance and film. On May 31st, *Gabrielle Lansner* will
show her emotionally-charged and story-driven dance films, including a
sneak peek at her latest work made in the Hudson Valley. On June 7th, *Victoria
Sendra* will show her improvisatory dance films and discuss her unique
approach to shooting dance. On June 14th, music documentarian, *Derrick
Belcham* will present his latest collaborative films made with
choreographers and musicians including Sarah Neufield (Arcade Fire), Skye
Skjelset (Fleet Foxes), and contemporary choreographers Miguel Guitierrez,
Melanie Maar, and Emily Terndrup. The June 28th screening will feature new
works made by the participants of the Kinetic Cinema workshops as well as
work selected by Kinetic Cinema curator, *Anna Brady Nuse*. All screenings
are open to the public.

The Kinetic Cinema workshop series is open to ten participants ages 14 and
up to learn the process of making a dance film. Each session will cover a
different aspect of filming dance, and participants will make their own
short film to be screened on June 28th. The sessions will be led by the
guest artists and co-facilitated by Anna Brady Nuse.

*Workshop Sessions:*

May 31st: Gabrielle Lansner will give a history and overview of dance film
concepts. Participants will practice framing movement with the camera and
learn approaches to planning and story-boarding a dance film.

June 7th: Victoria Sendra will give camera and movement exercises. After
going over their storyboards, participants will team up and go outside to
shoot their films.

June 14th: Derrick Belcham will introduce editing techniques as it pertains
to dance videos. Participants will create edit plans for their films and
practice using editing software.

June 29th: For the final session, participants will meet up with Anna Brady
Nuse to review their edits, make final tweaks, and prep their videos for
screening.

To register for the workshops please email annan at pentacle.org.

Please wear loose or stretchy clothing to move in. A video camera and a
computer is helpful to have, but not required. We are happy to help you
find equipment you can use or borrow for the workshops. Dancers who just
want to participate on-screen can drop in on May 31st or June 7th, but
choreographers and filmmakers must commit to the entire series of workshops.
