*EDGE OF FRAME WEEKEND 2018 *

*2-4 MARCH 2018, LONDON UK*

*BFI SOUTHBANK, BARBICAN + CLOSE-UP*

Edge of Frame presents a weekend of experimental and independent animation,
screening over 60 works, with many of the artists in attendance.

The Edge of Frame Weekend 2018 is a unique three-day celebration of
experimental animation, featuring innovative, visionary and risk-taking
work in a packed programme of screenings and discussion, with premieres of
brand new films showing alongside classics of animated art.

Following the success of the first Edge of Frame Weekend in 2016, the 2018
edition features six new screening programmes, at BFI Southbank, Barbican
and Close-Up, including a retrospective of guest artist Peter Burr,
guest-curated programmes from Herb Shellenberger and Alexander Stewart,
plus an afternoon of talks illuminating the processes, histories and
context of experimental animation. Leading contemporary animators will
present new and recent works, including Peter Millard, Natalia Stuyk,
Jonathan Hodgson, Steve Reinke, Julian Gallese and Vicky Smith. Guest
Curators Herb Shellenberger and Alexander Stewart have programmed
screenings especially for the Weekend, exploring ‘The Animated Body’ and
the highly original and influential experimental animation output of
California Institute of the Arts. The Weekend begins with an afternoon of
talks from a selection of leading artists, critics, academics and curators.

“*Delving into the many offerings of Edge of Frame demonstrates the rewards
of taking a chance, of welcoming strange ideas and experiencing new things.*”
